Archive of US Government’s Radiation Experiments on Human Subjects

We are publishing this archive of the US Government’s decades-long crimes against humanity related to US military-funded research studies performed on mostly unwitting human subjects.

The Department of Energy, which grew out of the US Government’s original project to build and drop the world’s first atomic bomb on Japan (the Manhattan Project) oversaw and funded these experiments, which took plce from the 1940s through the 1960s.  In 1996, the Department of Energy ordered the National Archives to destroy many of the records that detailed these massive crimes against humanity, conducted on US citizens during the US’ “holy war against communism”.

This is a joint project of Friends of WikiLeaks Chicago and the Independent Workers Party of Chicago and will be published on both groups’ websites.  We encourage everyone who is interested in this subject to download all these documents and store them in a safe place as a record of the world-historic crimes of the United States capitalist class and their wholly-owned government.  We also encourage those who possess documents like these to send them to us so we can add them to the archive.

The Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments (ACHRE) Final Report (1995)

Description: “The Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments (ACHRE), was created by President Clinton on January 15, 1994 to investigate and report on the use of human beings as subjects of federally funded research using ionizing radiation. ACHRE constructed a gopher site to provide public electronic access to information about its activities. Created by Executive Order and subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), the Advisory Committee was obligated to provide public access to its activities, processes and papers. The Advisory Committee believed, however, that the nature of the subject it investigated and the human stories that comprise it placed on it a special responsibility to disseminate as broadly as possible the results of its investigations, the implications of that history for our own time, and its best judgment concerning the rights and responsibilities of those involved.”

“The Tech”, 7 January, 1998:  “MIT [and Quaker Oats, Co. – IWPCHI] to Pay Victims $1.85 Million in Fernald Radiation Settlement” by Zareena Hussain

First paragraph:  “MIT and Quaker Oats Co. agreed last week to pay $1.85 million to children at the Walter E. Fernald State School who were subjects of nutrition studies during the 1940s and 1950s as part of an out of court settlement. The students were fed breakfast cereals laced with minute amounts of radioactive iron and calcium tracers. Children were encouraged to take part in the testing with promises of gifts or trips to Red Sox games.”
