Good News from Down Under: Fascist-friendly WikiLeaks Party of Australia Fails to Gain Support of Aussie Working Class

In a stunning rebuke from the Australian working class for their blatant courtship of right-wing and fascist political parties in the “preferencing” scandal, the WikiLeaks Party of Australia (WLPA) appears to have failed to win even one seat in the Australian Senate.

The Guardian, in an article published yesterday (8 September 2013), when only 2/3 of the vote was counted, reported that the party had failed to win any seats, having garnered a pathetic 1.18% of the vote in its best showing – in Victoria, where WLPA founder Julian Assange ran for office.  Other parties – like the “Sex Party” and the idiotic “Sports Party” far outpolled the internationally heralded WikiLeaks Party, with the “Sports Party”- a fake political party that has no political program of any substance at all – even winning its own Senate seat for the first time.

In marked contrast to today’s assertion by the WikiLeaks Party of Australia (in a message sent to us via Twitter in which they say “ only 61-69% of the votes have been counted. It will be atleast a week before final results are known.”), Julian Assange seemed ready yesterday to throw in the towel.

“Asked if he would try again for a Senate seat in three or six years’ time, Assange said: ‘I think so. The WikiLeaks Party will continue for sure,’ ” [Source: The Guardian (UK): “Julian Assange: WikiLeaks party will continue; WikiLeaks founder brushes off election loss, saying he will try again for a Senate position” via Australian Associated Press, 8 September, 2013 (see link above)]

Undoubtedly, the weak political program initially announced by the WikiLeaks Party of Australia – which made no mention at all of “the working class” or “women’s rights” and which declared its support of capitalism – did not appeal to the Australian working class as a viable alternative to the main established political parties.  And beyond that, the “open and transparent” declaration of the leaders of the WikiLeaks Party that they were, in fact, not a “left-wing” party and that they were fond of extreme right-wing politics –  which led them to “preference” a fascist party (the “Australia First Party”) over several ostensibly revolutionary socialist parties and even the Greens – most certainly turned off more than a few workers who had originally been inspired by the heroic work done by Julian Assange as head of the WikiLeaks whistle-blowing operation.

We at Friends of WikiLeaks Chicago, having reviewed the programme of the WikiLeaks Party of Australia and having drawn the necessary conclusions after reading about the preferencing scandal, announced to the world our opposition to the WikiLeaks Party and called on our working-class brothers and sisters in Australia to NOT vote for this pro-capitalist, anti-immigrant, anti-woman’s rights, fascist-fondling political abortion.  We hope that our principled opposition to the WikiLeaks Party of Australia helped convince our friends there to cast their vote elsewhere.  And we earnestly hope that, instead of soldiering on, as Julian Assange half-heartedly claims that he and the WikiLeaks Party leadership will do, that they will instead do all the workers of Australia a big favor by just leaping into Marx’s famous “dustbin of history”, thereby saving the Australian workers the unpleasant but neccessary labor of picking them up bodily and throwing them in, kicking and screaming.  Julian & Co.: stop playing politician and go back to publishing the dirt on the world’s capitalist class – a task that is helpful to the future development of the revolutionary socialist workers movement as well as being something you can, perhaps, be trusted to continue to handle semi-responsibly until the workers movement can produce something better.

We are not sure how much longer we can continue to support even WikiLeaks.org after what Julian Assange et al have revealed to the world – and to us – to be their fundamentally reprehensible political “preferences”.  “By their friends shall ye know them” as the old saying goes.  Having now learned all about the kinds of people Julian Assange has and seeks to have as “friends”, we’re now considering what we should advise our sisters and brothers in the Ecuadoran working class to do with that troublesome temporary guest they have been so generously protecting in their London embassy since he has “transparently” revealed himself to be enamored of racist, anti-immigrant, woman-hating bigots like the Australian fascist “Australia First Party” and Ron and Rand Paul.

    • Thanks for sending us the link to your interesting website! Though we disagree with your assessment of the accusations leveled at Julian Assange in Sweden and oppose any laws that introduce government interference in the personal affairs of people of any age, race or sex engaged in consensual sexual activities, we agree that Mr. Assange’s recent embracing of U.S. Senators Ron and Rand Paul, as well as his party’s de facto endorsement of right-wing and fascist political parties in the recent Australian Senate elections show that he is a right-wing libertarian who is pro-capitalist and openly hostile towards women’s rights. There is a consistent, right-wing, anti-woman thread woven through all of Mr. Assange’s political and personal actions these past few years which we find to be most repugnant. These latest actions undertaken by Mr. Assange do not throw a favorable retroactive light on his conduct in Sweden, to say the least.

    • How interesting that an alleged supporter of WikiLeaks would revert to the old US Government canard that “you’re either with us or you’re against us”. No free speech; no right to criticise, just blind obedience of the leaders. You would be right at home here in the US! Your attitude is precisely also that of a typical Stalinist bureaucrat in the old USSR. As Trotskyist internationalists, we not only “know where Australia is” but we have our own former political allies & friends in Australia and have had for over 30 years (http://www.icl-fi.org/english/asp/)! So you go ahead and wave an Australian flag and celebrate your pinheaded nationalism & your shameless fawning over the fascist-friendly leaders of the WikiLeaks Party of Australia. The working class of Australia and the world deserve far better than the WLP of A.

  3. Thank you Friends of Wikileaks – Chicago (or former friends)… some of us here in the U.S. are attempting to make our left-wing aware of this.

P.S. Ron and Rand Paul are RW religious zealots of the most spectacular kind – their latest horrific video in the lead-up to the Tea Party U.S. government shutdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7q3fyBC4HFo
